DIY Valentine’s Day Crafts for Kids to Spread Love and Joy

1. Heart-shaped Paper Flowers

  • Materials: colored paper, scissors, glue, green pipe cleaners
  • Instructions:
    • Cut out several heart shapes from the colored paper.
    • Glue the hearts onto the top of the green pipe cleaners to create the flower petals.
    • Twist the bottom of the pipe cleaner to secure the hearts in place.
    • Repeat to make a bouquet of paper flowers.

2. Love Bug Pencil Toppers

  • Materials: pom poms, googly eyes, pipe cleaners, small pompoms, hot glue gun, pencils
  • Instructions:
    • Use the hot glue gun to attach the small pom poms to the larger pom poms to create the love bug’s body.
    • Glue on googly eyes and use pipe cleaners to create antennae.
    • Once dry, slide the love bug onto the eraser end of a pencil.

3. Handprint Valentine’s Day Cards

  • Materials: construction paper, paint, markers
  • Instructions:
    • Have the child dip their hand in paint and make a handprint on the construction paper.
    • Once dry, use markers to decorate the handprint to look like a butterfly, ladybug, or any other creative design.

4. Heart-shaped Suncatchers

  • Materials: colorful tissue paper, contact paper, scissors
  • Instructions:
    • Cut out two identical heart shapes from the contact paper.
    • Cut the tissue paper into small squares or shapes.
    • Peel the backing off one of the contact paper hearts and place it on the sticky side up.
    • Have the child arrange the tissue paper on the sticky side of the contact paper heart.
    • Once finished, peel the backing off the second contact paper heart and carefully place it sticky side down on top of the tissue paper, creating a suncatcher.

5. Love Notes in a Jar

  • Materials: small jar, colored paper, scissors, pen
  • Instructions:
    • Cut the colored paper into small squares.
    • Have the child write short love notes or kind messages on each piece of paper.
    • Fold the notes and place them inside the jar.
    • Decorate the jar with ribbons or stickers.

6. Heart-shaped Potato Stamps

  • Materials: potato, knife, paint, paper
  • Instructions:
    • Cut a potato in half and carve a heart shape into a flat surface.
    • Dip the potato stamp into the paint and press it onto the paper to create heart-shaped prints.
