Ways to have fun when you have no money
When you have no money you can easily fall into a depression, so finding fun things to do with no money is important. You might not find everything on this list “fun” but I am sure something will catch your eye if you are picky.
This doesn’t need to be a permanent thing, you should be able to spend some money on fun and not feel guilty. If you are struggling, consider taking a look at your budget, if you don’t have a budget then you need to make one!
How do you have fun when you’re broke?
Before we get to the list, if you or your family has trouble doing free activities consider making it a fun challenge (works great for kids), no-spend weekends would be a great place to start.
1. Go to a beach
If you live in a hot climate, going to the beach is always fun. Try out new ones in your area to make it more interesting. This is a great option to do with your friends when you have no money.
2. Picnic in the park
Check your food situation and create a lunch to go then head out to a local park for a picnic! You get out of the house and it is free. You can also picnic basically anywhere such as your yard or even the beach.
3. Free Zoo
I know in some cities you can access the Zoo for free! I love the Zoo and so do the kids, unfortunately there isn’t one close enough to myself but our local farmers sometimes let people visit the farms and the kids get to pet the animals!
4. Play board games
Have a night every weekend where you host a family board game night, making it a tradition always helps and it is a fun time to spend together without electronics. Make it even better by adding some snack foods to the mix.
5. Check your local community center
Most communities have free entertainment happening often for all ages, my local community has free movies in the park, for example.
6. Holiday crafts
Usually there is some kind of Holiday in the near future, so scour your house for some craft supplies and make some DIY decorations with the kids, or on your own. You can find a ton of diy ideas on Pinterest.
7. Campfires
Who doesn’t like a good campfire? If you have some marshmallows or hot-dogs handy that will make it even better.
8. Hiking
Check out some local trails and enjoy the great outdoors, it used to be a thing you know ;). Really though, once you get out you will have fun. Even just getting out and going for a walk can surprisingly lift your spirits!
9. Camp out in your back yard
The kids love doing this, my back not so much, however doing it on a rare occasion makes it funner for the kids anyways.
10. Public Library
I bet you haven’t been to your local library in a while or never, check out some new books to read at home, this will also kill some time.
