How to live on no money & take advantage of a cash-free life

how to live on no money

It is possible to live without money and if you are looking for ways to start this cash-free journey you came to the right place!

If you don’t believe this way of life is possible then check out this article about Mark Boyle who decided to live for a year without money!

Keep in mind there are disadvantages to living without money so be sure you are ready to give up all those luxuries.

If you are not ready to give up certain things that do cost money, there are ways of living on very little income that you could incorporate into your daily life instead.

Tips for living without money

1. Establish a Shelter

Besides food & water, I would say shelter is a very important thing that you need in order to survive. Shelter is also one of the most expensive things we pay for.

Think about your mortgage and bills to run your household, even rent in most places is very costly!

Luckily there are now cheaper ways to live which surprisingly are trending, take a look at the “tiny homes”.

You could also purchase or better yet find a free camper or tent trailer to become your shelter.

2. Grow your own Food

Naturally if you want to have free food, growing your own is what you should do. You could also check out your local food bank for food as well.

Did you know, most foods can be grown simply from food scraps! Just cut off the plant’s base, which you normally wouldn’t eat, so you have a piece about 1 inch tall. Place it cut side up in a shallow bowl, and then add 1/2 inch of water.

Finding fresh free water these days is actually easier than most think. Besides digging a well, which is very expensive, there are tons of natural springs around!

We basically pay for convenience when it comes to water, which if you think about it is kind of sad and very lazy on our part!

*Currently making a plan to gather spring water for free instead of purchasing water jugs!*

3. Use Solar Energy

Taking advantage of our solar and even wind energy can help you have showers, cook and keep some of your daily life a bit easier.

You can also bathe in a lake or river, however some prefer the solar showers.

Did you know, you don’t actually need shampoos or body washes? Ya, it sounds horrible and it is for the first while until your body adjusts, especially your hair!

Personally I haven’t been able to kick shampoo, I do only use a mild soap now and not much of it (it’s the little things).

4. Always Barter

Many people are afraid to barter these days and I get it, but if you are living a life with no money then bartering is essential.

You can find people to trade with, just ask around. You can grow food to trade or trade your time and skills.

5. Free Travel

This is a hot topic when we say to hitchhike because naturally it has its risks. If you want to minimize this there are a few other options for free travel.

There are lots of cities that offer free transit, or you can get a bicycle and use that to get around a lot faster then on foot.

Final thoughts on living with no money

If you did happen to read the article on Mark Boyle then you know this is %100 possible, difficult but possible.

Use the tips above to get started and don’t panic if you need to spend some cash, learn from trial and error!

Even just living a minimal lifestyle can teach you so much.
